SWEDISH COMPANY TO INVEST SHS 3 BILLION IN KAKAMEGA
KAKAMEGA County Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Swedish energy investment company, VR Holding AB for establishment of a multi-million shilling municipal waste to energy power plant at Mungβangβa, Shianda in Mumias East Sub County.
Initial investment estimated at β¬30 million for the first line assembly will produce 2.5 Megawatts and will provide 200 jobs immediately. The technology is scalable, with possibilities of adding up to 500 Megawatts to the grid. The investment is based on a new technology from Finland through a joint venture of VR Holding AB of Sweden and Woima of Finland.
H.E. the Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya who signed on behalf of the county said the venture had materialized at an opportune time as the county focuses on aggressive implementation of the Big 4 development agenda of which industrialization is a key part. The county government will provide 15 acres of land for lease to the company as an investment contribution.
He expressed optimism that the entry of the Swedish power generation giant into the county economy will spur economic growth and improve the livelihood of residents.
