WATER SUPPLY BOOST IN MATUNGU AS LUNG’ANYIRO WATER PROJECT IS HANDED OVER TO CONTRACTOR
H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, today inspected the ongoing construction of the Church of God – Shivakala – Shikulu – Nyayo Tea Zone – Mahiakalo Road traversing through Shirere and Mahiakalo Wards in Lurambi Sub-County, a key project being implemented by the County Government of Kakamega under its countywide infrastructure development agenda.
The road is being upgraded to bitumen standards and is expected to significantly improve accessibility, facilitate the efficient movement of people and goods, and stimulate economic growth within the area.
The strategic road will open up the region by increasing commercial activities and investment opportunities. Upon completion, residents, farmers, traders, and other capital entrepreneurs will benefit from improved transport networks. The project is currently progressing steadily and is expected to be completed this year.
Addressing residents during the inspection tour, Governor Barasa reiterated his administration’s commitment to equitable development across all parts of Kakamega County through sustained investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, water, and other critical sectors. He noted that improved road networks play a vital role in supporting trade, enhancing service delivery, and improving the livelihoods of residents. The Governor also highlighted ongoing investments in education, including the construction and upgrading of ECDE facilities such as Rosterman and Kakamega Township ECDE centres.
Governor Barasa further commended the strong collaboration between the National Government and the County Government, noting that the partnership has accelerated the implementation of transformative projects benefiting residents across the county. He cited the ongoing upgrading of Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital and the construction of Bukhungu Stadium, expressing confidence that the hospital project and the stadium will be completed within this year.
The Governor was accompanied by Members of the County Assembly led by Shirere Ward MCA Hon. David Ikunza, Members of the Executive led by Architect Patrick Kundu, her Water counterpart Ms. Penina Mukabane, alongside county government officials.
