This morning, H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa hosted the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, at Bukhungu Stadium. The visit was part of the inspection tour for stadiums slated to host CHAN 2024 games in September.

The County Government of Kakamega is currently collaborating with the National Government through the Ministry of Sports in ensuring the completion of phase three of the stadium. This phase requires Ksh. 1.4 billion to cover main works at the Right C-Section of the pitch, civil works, and specialist installations like lighting systems.

CS Namwamba, while addressing the press, highlighted Kakamega’s potential as a host, evident in the recently concluded Secondary school games. He emphasized that Kakamega is well-suited for the upcoming African championships and future continental tournaments.

Governor Barasa disclosed that the stadium will undergo renovations and upgrades for four months to prepare for the continental championships. The County is also improving alternative pitches to host more games during the competition.
