A delegation of 150 farmers and agricultural stakeholders from Kakamega County has been flagged off to Nairobi to attend the National Agriculture Summit scheduled for October 7β9, 2026.
The delegation was flagged off on Tuesday evening at the County Headquarters by the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Mr. Mophat Mandela, representing H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW.
The delegationβs participation is part of the County Governmentβs efforts to strengthen agriculture and improve food security under Governor Barasaβs Six-Point Agenda. The summit, which will be presided over by H.E. President William Ruto, will bring together farmers and agricultural stakeholders to discuss food production, challenges facing farmers, markets and ways of improving livelihoods.
The Kakamega team comprises 85 agripreneurs, 13 animal health assistants, 30 SACCO leaders and 20 farmer producer organisation leaders. They will take part in discussions on crop and livestock farming, cooperative development and the marketing of agricultural produce.
The County Government has facilitated their travel and participation, giving farmers and other stakeholders an opportunity to learn, network and share ideas with counterparts from across the country.
The flagging-off ceremony was attended by Chief Officer for Agriculture and Irrigation, Mr. Emmanuel Kariuki; Chief Officer for Cooperatives Development, Mr. Anslem Mulinya; and other county officials.
