The first pillar of Kakamega County’s six-point agenda places a strong emphasis on ensuring clean and affordable water access for all. Concerted efforts, initiated from the policy level, have been established to transform this into a tangible reality.

In line with this, H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa graced the Annual General Meeting of the Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KACWASCO) Board in Kakamega this morning, where he shared his vision and strategy for the Water sector.

The Governor stressed the need for the Board to invest in water production infrastructure to address the current water deficit across the Green Jewel.

The demand for this vital resource in Kakamega County stands at 33,000 cubic meters, while the production capacity is currently at 12,000 cubic meters.

Financially, KACWASCO has substantial potential to generate Own Source Revenue that would greatly benefit the County. Governor Barasa encouraged the board, under the leadership of Mr. Boaz Bulimu, to devise effective measures to achieve this goal, which includes minimizing operational costs.

In attendance were the Water Executive, Ms. Peninah Mukabane, Finance Executive, CPA Livingstone Imbayi, County Secretary Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka, County Attorney Ms. Vivianne Mmbaka, Chief Officers, representatives from the Office of the Auditor General and other key stakeholders.
