GOVERNOR BARASA APPRECIATES PARTNERS FOR THEIR ROLE IN BOOSTING FOOD SECURITY

In a bid to boost food security, Kakamega County Government has allocated over Ksh 9 Billion in the 2023/2027 County Intergrated Development Plan (CIDP), making the sector one of the highest funded in the County.

This was revealed by the Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa on Wednesday when he met Kakamega County partners in the Agriculture sector for a consultative meeting at the County Headquarters.

The Governor emphasized on the need for enhanced collaboration between the County Government and the partners to ensure objectives of the food security agenda are achieved.

The allocation however, he explained, falls short of the projected County funding in the sector by Ksh 3 billion hence the need for partners’ support to bridge the gap.

In recognition of the complementary role played by Non-Governmental Organisations in the County, Governor Barasa asked the partners to embrace a consultative approach that allows the Government to understand their activities in the County so as to ensure effectiveness of such initiatives.

During the meeting the partners showcased their food security programmes in Kakamega County both in the past, ongoing and future plans.

Deputy Governor H.E Ayub Savula, Agriculture CECM Mr Benjamin Andama, County Secretary Dr Bonface Okoth, Chief Officers Bill Silingi, Mariam Nyongesa, Dr Barack Otieno and Emmanuel Kariuki and CEO Micro Finance Charles Oranga were present.
