COUNTY APPROVES NEW PROJECTS TO BOOST FOOD SECURITY
The County Department of Agriculture, led by CECM Mr. Mophat Mandela, held the first-quarter meeting to coordinate stakeholders in the agriculture sector. The session featured two key partners presenting new projects being launched in the county.
The Cereal Growers Association (CGA) introduced an extension model called the Farmers Service Centre, funded by GIZ. This complements six other CGA initiatives focused on improving food security and farmer incomes. Ripple Effect, another agricultural partner, is promoting regenerative farming practices and is piloting a related project in Lurambi Sub-county.
Mr. Mandela thanked the partners for supporting Governor Barasa’s six-point agenda on food security and wealth creation. He emphasized that strong collaboration would boost farm productivity and drive the Governor’s broader goal of industrialization.
He also pledged to fast-track the CASSCOM Bill, which will provide a legal framework for efficient and sustainable coordination in the agriculture sector, further strengthening the industry.
Other stakeholders shared progress updates, and the committee approved the work plans of the two partners introducing the new projects.
