KAKAMEGA COUNTY SUPPORTS CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES AT MR. & MISS AUTISM 2026
The Kakamega County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting children with disabilities during the Mr. & Miss Autism Kakamega 2026 event, where the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports represented the county government.
Speaking at the event, the CECM CPA Jackline Masicha said the county remains committed to promoting inclusive programmes that improve the education and well-being of children with disabilities. She also announced that the county will soon distribute bedding to special schools to enhance the welfare and learning environment of learners with disabilities.
Ready Aiders Foundation, organisers of the Mr. & Miss Autism Kenya programme since 2017, said this year’s competition has been devolved to county editions, with Kakamega hosting the Western Region participants from Busia, Vihiga, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia and Kakamega. Founder and CEO Kenneth Apopa thanked the county government, teachers and partners for supporting children with disabilities, expressing hope for continued collaboration to ensure no child is left behind.
The competition crowned Reece Amuga as Mr. Autism Kakamega 2026 and Gabriella Nandiri as Miss Autism Kakamega 2026. Isaac Wekesa and James Bradley finished as first and second runners-up respectively in the Mr. Autism category, while Asha Hussein and Damita Dawn were first and second runners-up in the Miss Autism category.
Loyce Okeno was named Autism Ambassador Kakamega 2026, Emmah Musitia was crowned Inclusion Champion, while Mercyline Nabwire and Catherine Nyawira were first and second runners-up in the Autism Ambassador category.
Among those present were Director KRA Shimaka, Butali/Chegulo Ward MCA Hon. Kelvin Mahelo, Hon. Modesta Auka, KRA Director Leonard Shimaka, Ready Aiders Foundation Director of Partnerships Vanessa Karabai, alongside other leaders, stakeholders, parents and members of the community.
