CGK, TINADA Review Progress in the Fight Against Malaria in Kakamega County

The County Government of Kakamega, in partnership with TINADA Youth Action Africa, held a review meeting to assess progress in the ongoing fight against malaria across the County.
Malaria continues to be one of the leading causes of illness and death in Kenya, with Western Kenya classified as a high malaria transmission zone.
Through its malaria control program, TINADA Youth Action Africa has been working closely with the County Department of Health to strengthen community awareness, enhance preventive interventions, and improve access to malaria treatment services.
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Officer for Public Health Ms. Rose Muhanda and Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. David Alilah emphasized the County Government’s commitment to scaling up malaria prevention and control measures in collaboration with TINADA. They noted that the partnership has strengthened community sensitization, promoted environmental sanitation, and supported the distribution of treated mosquito nets.
The two officials emphasized the need for increased use of data, behavior change campaigns, and equitable access to health services to sustain the gains made in malaria control.
TINADA representatives commended the County Government for its continued support and collaboration, underscoring the importance of community-driven approaches in maintaining progress toward a malaria-free Kakamega.
