COUNTY, CDSK REVIEW THE 2026 DISABILITY PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION
Kakamega County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka held consultative talks with a delegation from Cheshire Disability Services Kenya (CDSK) led by CEO Ms. Cecilia Mutava on the implementation of disability programmes in Kakamega County for the year 2026.
In his remarks Dr. Omuhaka highlighted issuance of social grants to groups including PWDs groups as part of the county’s commitment to disability mainstreaming and support.
Anchored on Article 24 of the Persons With Disability Act, 2025, the meeting focused on strengthening ongoing interventions aimed at improving the quality of life for PWDs in Kakamega. CDSK implements a holistic Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) model covering health, education, livelihood, social inclusion and empowerment.
Ms. Mutava, on her part, said the programme currently running in Nakuru, Narok and Kakamega counties, seeks to equip youth with; disabilities market-driven skills, social and emotional training, social inclusion to combat stigma and discrimination. It also targets to enhance prevention and response mechanisms to disability related challenges.
Discussions also centered on the proposed extension of the MoU between CDSK and the County Government which is under review.
Also present during the meeting were CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Ms. Jackline Masicha, CECM for Education Mr. Bernard Amwayi, Chief officers Dr. Vitalis Masakhwe (Service Delivery), Ms. Rose Muhando (Public Health) and Eng. Henry Marende (Special programmes)
