KAKAMEGA ARTISTS GET SKILLS BOOST

Over 100 participants from across Kakamega County have commenced a five-day Performing Arts Short Course at Kakamega social hall aimed at strengthening skills and enhancing opportunities within Kenya’s creative economy.

The training, organized under the Sanara Program by HEVA Fund in partnership with KCA University, brought together theatre practitioners, and other creative entrepreneurs for capacity-building sessions in five key areas: Production, Stage Management, Marketing, Directing, and Design.

The programme was officially launched by the Chief Officer for culture, Ms. Christine Oside, who represented the County Executive Committee Member for Sports, Culture and Social Services, CPA Jacky Masicha.

Speaking during the opening session, Ms. Oside lauded the initiative for empowering local creatives with practical skills and knowledge necessary to professionalize the sector and create employment opportunities for young people.

She noted that the county government remains committed to supporting programmes that nurture talent and position the creative industry as a key driver of economic growth.

The training attracted more than 100 participants and is scheduled to run until June 27, 2026, culminating in the award of certificates to those who successfully complete the course.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to build talent, strengthen the performing arts sector, and unlock opportunities within Kenya’s growing creative economy.

Also present were the Director of Culture, Ms. Gaudencia Otipa, Dr. Zippy Okoth from KCA University, representatives of HEVA Fund, and other county officers.
