COUNTY EXECUTIVES ENGAGE WITH THE FOURTH ESTATE ON PUBLICITY
The County Government of Kakamega on Tuesday this week held a consultative forum with resident journalists at Shieywe Guest House Hotel in Kakamega town aiming at strengthening devolution through a friendly working environment. The participants were enlightened on the roles of the media in the devolved system of governance and the need of synagy in the flow of information from both parties to benefit the public.
Speaking during the function, Kakamega County Deputy Governor H.E Hon. Prof. Philip Kutima, who graced the workshop, expressed concern on the balance and management of flow of county government information to the public through the media. He encouraged journalists to embrace and appreciate professional journalism especially on devolution and political topics.
Prof. Kutima called on members of the fourth estate to understand the county government structure as well as county policies for ease access and flow of factual information.
The interactive session gave journalists an opportunity to raise the challenges they face when sourcing for information from the county government officers and their expectations. They challenged the county government officers to provide relevant details relating to different topics of concern to enable mwananchi’s watchdog report the actualities on time.
The workshop, coordinated by County Head of Communication Sumba Juma, entailed not only fruitful discussions but it was also a platform for learning from renowned educationist and communication expert, Dr. Purity Anyanje and Mr. David Wafula Nyongesa respectively.
In attendance were CEC Robert Sumbi, County Chief Officcers Jeremia Were, Beldina Otieno, Kennedy Kinyua, Brenda Makokha, Maindi Stanley, and Evelyne Mulunji as well as County Communication Officers.
