BRIDGING COMMUNITIES, UNLOCKING ECONOMIC GROWTH: GOVERNOR BARASA’S INFRASTRUCTURE DRIVE TAKES SHAPE

Unlocking the economic potential of rural areas begins with reliable infrastructure. The County Government of Kakamega, under the leadership of H.E. Governor FCPA Dr. Fernandes Barasa, continues to invest in bridges and box culverts to improve connectivity, ease the movement of people and goods, and support the efficient transportation of farm produce, including sugarcane, to markets and industries.

Across Kakamega County, more than 30 bridge and box culvert projects have been undertaken. More than 20 are already complete and serving communities, while six others are at various stages of construction.

Completed projects include Manda Bridge, Chevoso, Musingu I and Musingu II, Mang’uliro, Lukala, Teresia, and Shilongo in Malava Sub-County; Evihande, Eluhali and Munduma in Navakholo Sub-County; Petros Nyaporo and Mulwanda in Mumias East Sub-County; Rev. George Abura and Munyanya in Lurambi Sub-County; Namilimu in Matungu Sub-County; Malenya in Lugari Sub-County; Vihulu–Musingu in Shinyalu Sub-County; Indoli Box Culvert in Mumias East Sub-County; and Chali Kasinde Bridge in Ikolomani Sub-County.

Construction is also progressing on Tamanoni in Lurambi Sub-County; Kasaya and Shanda in Malava Sub-County; Shitiya in Shinyalu Sub-County; Ebusambe in Matungu Sub-County; Mutonyi in Lugari Sub-County; and the Ibokolo–Elukokho Box Culvert in Butere Sub-County, among other projects.

These infrastructure investments are strengthening rural connectivity, reducing transport challenges, and opening up new opportunities for trade, agriculture, and economic growth across Kakamega County.
