The County Government of Kakamega on Monday officially handed over the site for construction of the proposed Eshiakula Bridge project to Rodz Construction Limited. The County is implementing the project under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme.

Speaking during the official handover, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Mrs. Peninah Mukabane, noted that the bridge will significantly improve transport and accessibility for residents of Munanga, Eshitoi and Emurabe areas, while supporting economic activities and easing movement throughout the year.

Chief Officer for Water and Climate Change, Dr. Miriam Were, stated that the project, valued at KSh. 13.5M, is expected to be completed within six months. She, further, noted that the bridge forms part of the County Government’s commitment to implementing climate-resilient infrastructure under the FLLoCA Programme, to improve livelihoods and strengthen community resilience.

The team later on proceeded to inspect the ongoing Manyatta Gully Rehabilitation Project in Mumias West Sub-county before proceeding to Butere Sub-county, where they conducted a public participation exercise on the proposed construction of Munamisi Bridge.

Also present during the handover was County Roads Engineer, Eng. Mr. Joshua Okumbi, alongside other county officials.
