GOVERNOR BARASA BREAKS GROUND FOR SHIANDA LEVEL 4 HOSPITAL

H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa today broke ground for the construction of Shianda Level 4 Hospital in East Wanga Ward, Mumias East Sub-County.

The project marks the transformation of the existing Shianda Health Centre into a fully-fledged Level 4 hospital, with a 100-bed capacity that will expand access to quality healthcare for residents of Mumias East Sub-County and the surrounding areas. Construction is scheduled for completion within 24 months.

The modern three-storey facility will feature an operating theatre, triage unit, recovery rooms, male and female medical and surgical wards, as well as modern diagnostic and support services. It will also include a sewerage treatment system, storm water drainage and other essential infrastructure to support efficient and reliable healthcare delivery.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Barasa said the project is part of his administration’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare services and improve access to quality and affordable medical care across Kakamega County.

He noted that the investment reflects the steady transformation of the county’s health sector, citing the operational Butere Level 4 Hospital, the nearing completion of Shamakhubu Level 4 Hospital, and the ongoing construction of Kakamega Level 6 Referral Hospital in collaboration with the National Government, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The Governor also highlighted ongoing development projects in Mumias East Sub-County, including investments in roads, bridges, ECDE centres, modern markets and water projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents.

The event was attended by Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, Majority Leader Hon. CPA Philip Maina, the host Hon. Francis Washika, Members of the County Executive led by CECM for Health Services CPA Livingston Imbayi, and other county government officials.
