COUNTY HOLDS POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE RUN AS STAFF DONATE BLOOD FOR POSTPARTUM MOTHERS

The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health Services, today held an End Postpartum Hemorrhage (EPPH) Run dubbed “Run for Her” across Kakamega town, culminating in a blood donation drive at Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital (KCGTRH).

The initiative aims to increase blood availability for mothers who experience postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), a leading cause of preventable maternal deaths.

Speaking at the start of the run, CECM Health Services, CPA Livingstone Imbayi, welcomed the initiative, noting that no mother in Kakamega should lose her life to preventable postpartum hemorrhage.

Chief Officer for Public Health, Mrs. Rose Muhanda, commended health workers for their selfless contribution, noting that the donated blood will play a critical role in saving mothers’ lives across maternity units in the county.

The run started at KCGTRH, passed through the Golf Club and Kakamega town to Bukhungu Stadium, before returning to the hospital through Kakamega Police Line Road and Kakamega High School Roundabout for the blood donation exercise.

Supporting partners, including LifetNet, Lwala Community Health Alliance, JHPIEGO, Medsupply Hospital Mumias, Mukumu Hospital, MMUST, and KMTC campuses in Kakamega, Shianda, Navakholo and Mukumu, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the county’s efforts to end preventable deaths from postpartum hemorrhage.

Among those present were Chief Officer Trade, Mrs. Faith Gitira, County Reproductive Health Coordinator, Ms. Beverly Wambani, County Obstetrician-Gynaecologist, Dr. Godfrey Mutaha, and County Nursing Officer, Mrs. Alice Harambee, among others.
