CECM ENVIRONMENT LEADS KAKAMEGA TOWN CLEAN-UP EXERCISE

Kakamega County has stepped up efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and conservation with a clean-up exercise held within Kakamega Town, bringing together county administration, stakeholders and environmental partners.

The exercise was led by the County Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Mrs. Peninah Mukabane, alongside officials from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Practical Action, Huduma Centre Kakamega Branch and other stakeholders.

Mrs. Mukabane flagged off the exercise, which is part of the build-up activities ahead of the upcoming Mazingira Day celebrations scheduled for October 10.

In her remarks, Mrs. Mukabane urged participants and residents to take an active role in protecting the environment, emphasizing that maintaining a clean environment requires collective responsibility from government agencies, businesses, other organizations and members of the public.

The CECM also called on residents to clear trenches and drainage channels around their homes and businesses to ensure smooth flow of water to prevent blockages that could lead to flooding, especially at the start of the anticipated El nino rainfall.

Mrs. Mukabane, further, encouraged stakeholders to continue advocating for environmental conservation and sensitizing communities on the importance of proper waste management and keeping public spaces clean.

The clean-up exercise underscores the county government’s commitment to creating a clean, safe and sustainable environment for residents while encouraging greater community participation in environmental conservation.
