KAKAMEGA COUNTY HONORS AND AWARDS BILL 2017 ASSENTED

Kakamega County Governor H.E Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya today assented to three bills namely; The Kakamega County Honours and Awards Bill 2017, The Kakamega County Order of Precedence Bill 2017 and The Kakamega County Flag, Emblems and Names (Amendment) Bill 2017.

The Kakamega County Honors and Awards Bill 2017 is an Act of the County Assembly that provides a criteria for identification, selection and honoring of acts of heroism and excellence. The Kakamega County Order of Precedence Bill 2017 is an Act of the County Assembly to provide for the order of precedence for officials at official, public and county functions and for connected purposes. The County Assembly as well enacted the County Flag, Emblems and Names Act 2015 to provide for establishment of the County symbols of Authority and Identity, namely; County Coat of Arms, County Seal, County Flag and County Anthem. The bill gives effect to and operationalizes the County flag, Emblem and Names Act 2015 by inserting the text of the County Anthem in English and Kiswahili. The amendment also provides for offenses under the Act and associated penalties.

Governor Oparanya observed that the Constitution provides for county governments to have Emblems, Anthems and other essential symbols of unity. He expressed optimism that the three bills will promote cohesion among the county residents and encourage a sense of belonging and togetherness.
