KAKAMEGA SET TO ABOLISH CHEMICAL INCINERATION IN THE REGION

Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya has said Kakamega County will soon serve the larger Western region and its environs in waste material disposal from health facilities on completion and commissioning of the waste management plant project stationed at the County General Hospital (CGH).

Addressing the media yesterday at the CGH prior to inspection of the project, Oparanya said his government has invested Sh12M in construction of the facility which he said will be eco-friendly. The County government is in partnership with Belgium and the facility will be operational in two months time.

Chemical incineration, he said, will be a historic move both in public and private health facilities across Kakamega County. The modern equipment will not destroy waste by combustion, polluting the environment, but will instead physically shred the material using microfilters.

The Governor had earlier inspected the Kakamega Funeral Parlour construction project at the CGH which is almost complete. The new facility, one if its kind in the entire Western region, will have a unit for the medicol-legal cases, general mortuary services, a Chapel, a restaurant, ablution block and an ample parking bay. Other facilities include accommodation for the morticians, postmortem services, ample admission and viewing facilities and a state of the art cold storage fridges.

These two projects, the Governor said, will not only be a source of own revenue for the county but also provide excellent services to the departed and the bereaved while economically and properly managing health waste.

The Governor was accompanied by H.E. the Deputy Governor Prof. Philip Museve Kutima, CECM Health Services Mrs. Rachel Okumu, the Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. Beatrice Etemesi, Chief of Staff Robert Sumbi, the Medical Superintendent Dr Victor Zimbulu hospital Administrator Mr. Titus Mumia, among other officials.
