KAKAMEGA ON COURSE TO DEFEND HER TITLE ~ MAKHANU

The CECM for Social Services, Youths, Sports and Culture Hon. Robert Makhanu has challenged his troops at the ongoing Kenya National Music & Cultural festivals to return home with the overall trophy currently in the county’s possession after winning the national title during the 92nd edition last year in Meru county.

The CECM made the remarks after watching a stunning traditional dance perfomance by Weremba dancers from Kakamega county yesterday at Maranda High school, Siaya county. The group is among some of the county’s representatives that have so far finished in the first position in their respective categories. Others are Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology (MMUST), Sifa Melodies, Sigalagala National Polytechnic, Mumias United among others. The competitions end today at Maranda High school. Jaramogi Oginga University of Science & Technology (JOOUST) hosted the initial performances.

MEANWHILE, Kakamega’s Matende Cultural group announced winners in the Luhya and closely related ethnic styles – Mixed category with their famous Isukuti dance at the ongoing Kenya National Music & Cultural festival at Maranda High school, Siaya county. Weremba Cultural group also from Kakamega county were position two in the same category. The festivals officially comes to an end officially today.

CECM for Social Services, Youths, Sports and Culture Hon. Robert Makhanu, director of culture Gaudencia Otipa and Youths advisor Mophat Mandela were present to receive the trophies on behalf of the winners and the county.
