MOTHERS SET TO BENEFIT FROM EXPANDED OPARANYA CARE PROGRAM

Kakamega County Health Services Executive Committee Member Dr. Collins Matemba has stressed for discipline and diligence among the newly recruited data clerks under the Imaarisha Afya ya Mama na Mtoto Program popularly referred to as “Oparanyacare.” He was speaking when he officially opened a five day training for the clerks on Management Information System, Wednesday morning. Dr. Matemba implored on the trainees to be great ambassadors of the County Government as well as the entire infant-maternal healthcare program in Kakamega County and beyond.

“Engage these mothers like you would interact with your own mother or sister so that we may achieve the objective of zero maternal mortality,” he advised.

According to the program Manager, Madam Antoinette Muyuka, the key objective is to ensure all the 60 wards of Kakamega have access to the program.

“By the end of this training, we will be rolling out 14 new facilities bringing the total number of health facilities covered by Oparanya care to 39,” she revealed.

Madam Muyuka said that the training is a warm-up to the program’s re-launch in a month’s time in partnership with UNICEF. The United Nations funded organization has supplied computers to the program and actively supported in capacity building of the data clerks.

Ag. Chief Officer for Health Services Mr. Fanuel Wemali is expected to officially close the workshop on Saturday.
