ARSENAL SURVIVE SHIVEYE SCARE TO MARCH TO THE SUB-COUNTY STAGE

The 2022 Kakamega Governor’s Cup finalists Lirhembe Arsenal marched to the Sub-County level of the competitions with a hard laboured 4-2 win over an industrious Shiveye FC, on post match penalties, after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Lirhembe’s goal was scored towards stoppage time by the on form Vincent Chiruka sinking the hearts of the home fans. Buoyed by the presence of veteran striker and former Kenyan International Dennis Mukaisi, Lirhembe now advances to the next level and will face formidable opposition from Malinya Cranes who comfortably dispatched Legends FC 3-0 in the Idakho Central Ward Finals and Shangetso who thrashed Eregi United 2-0 in the Idakho South Ward Finals played at Lusiola Primary School grounds.

At Mutaho Primary School, Galactico snatched a narrow 4-3 victory against Imbale Cranes, from the spot kicks, booking the Idakho North Ward slot to the Sub-County arena.

CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela who witnessed the Lirhembe versus Shiveye contest reiterated that the purpose of the Governor’s Bonanza is to expose the budding talents to the National and eventually International stage, in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Social Development agenda, and called for discipline from the athletes

He revealed that the County Government, through the Department of Sports in partnership with the Department of Education, is working towards supporting transport logistics of teams competing in the lower leagues such as the Division One and Two as well as the National Super League, to ensure they honour all their away matches.

The Ward winners were handed a trophy together with Kshs 50,000 while the 1st runners up received Kshs 30,000 as the Third place finishers went home with Kshs 20,000.
