COUNTY DEVELOPS POLICY TO SAFEGUARD CHILDREN
Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa on Wednesday presided over the launch of Kakamega County Children’s Policy. The document, a joint effort with the County Assembly of Kakamega to anchor the values of protecting children in law; addresses the unique challenges of children in Kakamega County, taking into consideration statutes from other jurisdictions such as United Nations.
Speaking at the event held at Bukhungu Stadium Kakamega, Governor Barasa stated that the policy will safeguard all children regardless of their capacity or the physical and mental potential they exhibit. The Governor explained that children suffer from abuse brought about by social and economic challenges adding that his administration is sensitive to the needs of the juveniles moreso those with vulnerabilities and challenges that push them on the margins of social development.
The Policy has four pillars namely Child Survival, Child Protection, Child Development and Child Participation.
CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela appreciated partners among them the National Government and USAID for steadfastly supporting the County towards development of the critical document.
