COUNTY FIRST LADIES’ FIGHT POLLUTION -NAIROBI

Kakamega County First Lady Priscillah Oparanya joined her colleagues in advocating for a clean environment safe from pollution at the United Nations offices, Gigiri-Nairobi.

The meeting sought to connect Kenya county first ladies’ to chat the way forward in paving way for a pollution free nation and continent.

First Lady Priscillah Oparanya shared with the members her efforts to clean up the environment in Kakamega county which includes sensitizing residents on the importance of living in a pollution free environment, stepping up campaign to empower women and youths in the County to start up income generating activities such as basket weaving in support of the plastic ban and the introduction and promotion of the environment friendlier Power Pellet Jiko to women. The jiko uses pellets as a source of energy instead of charcoal. She also explained her continued drive to distribute tree seedlings to residents across the county to improve the forest cover.

The meeting which ended yesterday, has received support from the United Nations environmental promotion organ and the the Council of Governors’ among other partners.
