COUNTY, NCPWD, CBM AND APDK CONDUCT FOUR-DAY MEDICAL DISABILITY ASSESSMENT AND REGISTRATION EXERCISE IN LUGARI

The County Government of Kakamega, in partnership with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Christian Blind Mission (CBM) and the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK), today commenced a four-day Medical Disability Assessment and Registration exercise at Mautuma Sub-County Hospital in Lugari Sub-county. The outreach is aimed at bringing disability assessment, registration, certification and other essential government services closer to persons with disabilities across the sub-county.

Speaking during the exercise, the County Rehabilitation Coordinator, Mrs. Faith Owuor, reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to providing inclusive and accessible healthcare services for all residents. She noted that the outreach is a significant step towards empowering persons with disabilities by improving access to disability registration, certification and the benefits associated with official recognition.

Mrs. Owuor, further, emphasized that decentralizing the services to Mautuma Sub-County Hospital reduces the cost and inconvenience of travelling to the Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital (KCGTRH), enabling more residents to access the services with ease.

The one-stop-shop outreach offered a range of essential services, including medical disability assessment, registration with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), issuance of disability registration certificates, and registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Present during the exercise were APDK/CBM Programme Manager, Mr. Benson Agesa, National Council for Persons with Disabilities Disability Services Officer, Ms. Priscah Akoth, among other county officials and stakeholders.
