DEPUTY COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SENSITIZED ON INTEGRATED NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME.
Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs) from West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Kakamega counties have today been sensitized at Golf Hotel Kakamega on the Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme (INReMP), as part of efforts to strengthen community resilience to climate change and improve livelihoods.
The programme, supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), seeks to promote sustainable management of natural resources, enhance resilience to climate change and improve food, nutrition and income security among rural households.
During the sensitization, the DCCs were taken through an overview of INReMP, its governance and coordination structures, the role of National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), the status of the National Climate Security and Resilience Programme (NCCSRP), as well as the programmeβs geographical mapping and targeting.
Representing the County Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, the Chief Officer in charge of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, CPA Bill Silingi, said the initiative is timely, noting that the involvement of key stakeholders such as NGAOs is critical in reaching marginalized and vulnerable communities.
CPA Silingi urged the DCCs to support community sensitization on sustainable natural resource management and climate resilience, emphasizing the importance of community-driven interventions in building resilient livelihoods and ensuring sustainable development.
Present were, the Kakamega County Commissioner Mr. Taari Rwaria, County’s program coordinator Mr. Titus Omengo,IFAD Agronomist Mr. Khabi Samuel among other officials.
