GOVERNOR BARASA COMMISSIONS MARAKUSI DISPENSARY TO BOOST PRIMARY HEALTHCARE IN LUGARI
H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, today commissioned the Marakusi Dispensary in Lugari Ward, Lugari Sub-County, in a significant milestone towards strengthening primary healthcare services across Kakamega County.
The newly established facility is set to improve access to essential medical services for residents, many of whom previously travelled long distances to seek treatment. It will provide a comprehensive range of outpatient services, including maternal and child healthcare, immunization, basic laboratory diagnostics, and treatment of common illnesses.
The commissioning of the dispensary aligns with the County Government’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots level while decongesting referral hospitals. By expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare within communities, the County continues to advance its Universal Health Coverage agenda.
Speaking during the occasion, Governor Barasa reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in health infrastructure, personnel, and the consistent supply of essential medicines across all sub-counties. He noted that strengthening dispensaries and health centres remains critical, as they serve as the first point of contact for the majority of patients.
He was accompanied by Members of the County Assembly led by the area MCA, Hon. Grey Moi, Members of the County Executive Committee led by the CECM for Health, CPA Livingstone Imbayi, and other county officials.
