GOVERNOR BARASA COMMISSIONS MUNYUKI ECDE CENTRE IN LUGARI SUB-COUNTY
H.E. FCPA Dr Fernandes Barasa today commissioned the Munyuki Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centre at Munyuki Primary School in Lumakanda Ward, Lugari Sub-County. The newly completed facility comprises two classrooms, an administrative office, a kitchen, a water tank, modern sanitation facilities, and a dedicated rest area, providing a safe and conducive environment for early learners.
The project is part of the County Government of Kakamega’s ongoing investment in foundational education, with over 61 ECDE centres currently at various stages of construction across the county. The initiative aims to expand access to quality early childhood education and strengthen the foundation for learners’ academic and social development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Barasa reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing ECDE as a cornerstone of lifelong learning. He also announced plans to construct a Kshs. 20 million water dam in Lumakanda Ward to improve water access under the “Amatsi Khumuliango” (water at the doorstep) initiative.
The Governor further called on national leaders to uphold integrity in public service, urging Members of Parliament to avoid using parliamentary committees for political interests or blackmail. The event was attended by ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale, Members of the County Assembly led by area MCA Hon.Benard Mulama Bokanda, Members of the Executive led by CECM for Education, Science and Technology Dr. Benard Amwayi, and the host CECM for Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning Ms. Anjela Silima Muchai, among other local leaders.
