GOVERNOR BARASA EXPANDS HEALTH PARTNERSHIPS TO STRENGTHEN MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTHCARE IN KAKAMEGA

Residents of Ikolomani, Butere, Navakholo, Mumias West and Lurambi Sub-Counties are set to benefit from a new health partnership between the County Government of Kakamega and M-PESA Foundation that will support the construction of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and Newborn Unit (NBU) facilities.

The partnership is part of H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure through strategic collaboration with corporate and development partners, complementing investments by the County Government to expand access to quality healthcare closer to residents.

Under the partnership, MNCH facilities will be constructed at Iguhu Level IV Hospital in Ikolomani, Manyala Health Centre in Butere, Navakholo Level IV Hospital in Navakholo and Mumias Level IV Hospital in Mumias West. A Newborn Unit will also be constructed at Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital in Lurambi Sub-County.

The projects, to be managed through M-PESA Foundation’s consultants in collaboration with the County Government of Kakamega, will increase the capacity of the respective health facilities to provide maternal, newborn and child health services, enabling residents to access essential care closer to their homes, while strengthening the county’s wider healthcare system.

Governor Barasa has consistently pursued strategic partnerships to complement county investments and accelerate the delivery of essential services. The collaboration with M-PESA Foundation further demonstrates the value of public-private partnerships in strengthening health infrastructure and improving healthcare outcomes for the people of Kakamega.
