Governor Barasa Marks International Women’s Day with a Commitment to Empower Women in Kakamega County

Kakamega County has made significant strides in women’s empowerment, including issuance of social protection grants that benefit women’s groups and promote inclusivity in leadership and economic opportunities.

Alongside First Lady Prof. Janet Kassilly Barasa, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa marked International Women’s Day at Bumini Grounds in Mumias East Sub-county under the theme, “For all Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”

Governor Barasa reaffirmed his commitment to breaking barriers that hinder women’s growth and development in Kakamega County.

He highlighted various county government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women, including the commissioned Gender-Based Violence Rescue Center in Shinyalu, Barasa Care, Kazi Mashinani, and other projects and programs.

Present at the event were MCAs led by Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, Majority Leader CPA Philip Maina, host Francis Washika, Mama Hellen Savula, spouse of the Deputy Governor, County Executive Members led by CECM Mophat Mandela, and other officials.
