KAKAMEGA INMATES HOST FIRST LADY AHEAD OF WOMEN’S DAY

Kakamega First Lady H.E Prof Janet Kassily Barasa’s humility and passion to create a better and more sustainable society were clearly visible as she celebrated with women inmates at Kakamega GK Prison ahead of the International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023.

In her speech the First Lady asked the inmates to become ambassadors of change upon completion of their rehabilitation and implored residents to live in harmony and peace to make the society a better place to live for all.

The engagement saw inmates encouraged and appreciated underpinning this year’s theme: DigitALL Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality as Prof. Kassily donated assorted foodstuffs and other personal effects to the inmates and their babies.

The First Lady was accompanied with Chief Officers; Ms Vivien Ayuma (Social Services, Gender, Culture and Children Services), Ms Leah Khasandi Education, Science and Technology, Ms Faith Gitira (Land Administration, Survey and Housing) as well as the Gender Advisor in the Office of the Governor Madam Christine Oside among others.

Also present were the Regional and County Commanders of Prisons Wilson Akwany and Yusuf Kaitabok respectively as well as the Officer In-Charge of the facility Superintendent Doreen Anabaka.
