KAKAMEGA COUNTY TO HOST INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Kakamega County has been selected as one of the counties that will be hosting this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations that will be marked on 8th March, 2021.

This was revealed by the CECM for Social Services, Youths, Women Empowerment, Sports and Culture Mr. Kassim Were, who is also the event’s planning committee Chairperson in the County, during a Kakamega Intergovernmental Gender Sector Working Group (KIGSWG) meeting held on Wednesday at Magharibi hall, Kakamega.

This years’ fete will be held in five counties; Nairobi, Mombasa, Embu, Baringo and Kakamega with the theme being “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a Covid-19 World,”

The planning committee that comprises of officials from the Ministry and other key stakeholders is in the process of drafting a budget for the Celebrations.

“We are celebrating the immense efforts women and girls around the world have invested in shaping an equal environment during this challenging period of COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya and specifically in Kakamega County,” said Mr. Were.

KIGSWG Co-chair Ms. Valentine Cherono, Chief Officer Mr. John Imbogo, National Government Gender Director Mr. Aggrey Wafula, Kakamega County Youth Director Mr. James Khalwale were also present among other Government officials.
