KAKAMEGA GOVERNOR’S CUP KICKS OFF

The Inaugural Kakamega County Governor’s Football Bonanza kicked off today, Thursday 29th December 2022, with 18 thrilling matches being played at various venues in Mumias.

Kakamega County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender, Culture and Library Services Mr. Mophat Mandela graced the opening ceremony on behalf of H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa where he congratulated the participants for being selected to represent their respective teams in the four day men and ladies football extravaganza themed “Identifying and Nurturing Talents,”.

The County Executive, who was flanked by Chief Officers Madam Vivienne Ayuma and Joseph Abucheri, called for sportsmanship from the players and fairness from match officials saying the 36 teams competition is a curtain raiser for major sporting events in the County in the coming years.

Sixteen men’s teams proceed to the round of sixteen as their ladies counterparts square it out for the first and runners up positions.

The grand finale will be staged on 1st January 2023 and graced by Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa.
