KAKAMEGA HAS LAID DOWN A QUALITY FOUNDATION – GOVERNOR OPARANYA

The incoming County leadership in Kakamega will inherit a robust and functional system spread upto the Community Area level. This was said by H.E Dr. FCPA Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya when he opened a capacity building programme for Community Area Council Members (CACM) in Ikolomani and Lurambi Sub-Counties on Tuesday.

Kakamega County, he explained, is the only County that has established structures upto the Community level, as required by law, to enhance service delivery and improve citizenry participation to Government matters.

“Your role is to capture and present to the County Government the areas of concern and views of residents in that particular community that you live in for action; you play a key role in ensuring the County undertakes development in accordance with the needs and wishes of the residents,” the Governor explained.

They represent matters in the devolved sectors namely; Health Services, Water, Roads (Rural roads) and Education (Early Childhood Development and County Polytechnics) and will be expected to hold sittings after every three months to review and advise on implementation and progress of projects and programmes in those sectors at the community level.

Dr. Oparanya said as he exits the stage as Kakamega Governor, he is very confident that his successor will have an easy time implementing his agenda due to the functional structures he has put in place as the piooner Governor.

“Be good ambassadors of the Government and understand both the County and National Government structures to assist you in your roles,” he said.

During the Countywide training, the CACM will be taken through their general operational guidelines, protocol and etiquette in the Public Service, reporting framework for community area activities and the structure of County Administration among others.
