KAKAMEGA MARKS HER SECOND GOVERNOR’S ‘DAY’ WITH FARMERS
To promote his manifesto’s food security pillar, Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa on Wednesday graced the second edition of the Governor’s Day with Farmers at Bukura Agricultural Training Centre where he interacted with Partners, Agricultural Officers and Farmers from the entire County.
In his address to the stakeholders, Governor Barasa said his administration has set aside KES 10 Billion to enable the respective Departments in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives undertake projects and programmes aimed at improving the well being of residents.
The Governor added that the County has allocated KES 713 Million for purchase of 120,000 bags of planting fertilizer where a 25kgs bag is retailing at KES 1485/- and encouraged farmers to purchase the County subsidized fertilizer, available at their nearest Ward offices.
An earlier Research carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, that involved soil sampling and testing, informed the choice of the fertilizer making the blended commodity the most suitable for Kakamega County soils.
The event saw participation from DANIDA, Kakamega County Farmers Association (KACOFA), KENAFF and TMG Research among other partners also saw the Governor use the platform to remind the National Government to relinquish all devolved functions especially in the Agriculture and Health Sectors saying that will support President William Ruto’s bottom-up economic model at the same time allow farmers and other key stakeholders at the grassroots to interact with key policy makers and implementors.
Deputy Governor H.E Ayub Savula who was in attendance called for a speedy implementation of policies to attract partners in the sector.
