KAKAMEGA STORM INTO KNOCK OUT STAGE AT KICOSCA GAMES
The Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games entered the third day today as Kakamega mens’ soccer team registered an 8-0 win over minnows Bomet county in a pool C match played at Kipchimchim Primary school, Kericho County.
Kennedy Wandiri netted the competition’s fastest goal for Kakamega in the 4th minute with a superb finish following a wonderful build up from a star studded midfield of Nashon Muyeka, Alphas Khaemba and the industrious striker Joseph ‘Etoo’ Etemesi. Kennedy ‘Kante’ Wandiri, undoubtedly the current highest goal poacher in soccer, netted three more goals for a comfortable 4-0 scoreline at halftime. Kakamega’s other goals were scored by Glen Simiyu, Bruno Maumbo and Joseph Etemesi (2). The win now comfortably catapults the team to the apex of the pool.
Elsewhere, Kakamega county produced a neatly choreographed folk song- ‘Undochere Mwana Wanje’ – that dazzled the audience in a capacity filled hall at Kipsigis Girls High school signalling the start of the group’s performances at the Kicosca competitions. Tomorrow the team is expected to catch the judges’ eye with an Isukuti cultural dance perfomance, “Mayoo” usually performed during Bull fighting contests in Western Kenya.
At Kericho Primary School, Kilifi county men tug of war team was no match to a rejuvenated Kakamega county side captained by fire engine operator Jackson Wakhanu assisted by anchor man David ‘Tesh’ Mahakaya. Kakamega easily blew off their coastal opponents to book a quarter final duel with Nyahururu County, tomorrow (Thursday).
