RESIDENTS URGED TO MAXIMIZE ON THE EXTENDED IEBC VOTER REGISTRATION PERIOD

Kakamega Governor H.E Hon. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya has urged residents to utilize the two day extension for voter registration exercise ruled by the court on Tuesday and register as voters. The new voter registration deadline announced by IEBC this year is Thursday 16th.

Governor Oparanya made his final call for potential residents to register as voters where he expressed dissatisfaction with the number of people so far captured by IEBC in the County. So far only 85,000 new voters have been registered in the county against the 328,000 target by IEBC for the on-going registration exercise.

As part of his mandate, the Governor who was in Matungu Sub-County for public participation program announced the construction and upgrading of Matungu-Ogalo Road to bitumen standards, a project earmarked for the next financial year. The Governor gave a deadline of one month for the installation of high mast lights at the busy Koyonzo and Emakale markets to enhance security and allow businesses to operate efficiently in the Sub-County. Governor Oparanya also directed Health Services CECM Penina Mukabane to hasten site viewing and construction of Emakale Health Centre.

Also in attendance were CEC members, Members of County Assembly and aspirants for various elective positions led by County Member of Parliament aspirants Elsie Muhanda and Hadija Juma Nganyi among others.
