SOLARIZATION OF MISANGO WATER PROJECT TO ENHANCE WATER ACCES IN KHWISERO

The County Government of Kakamega has taken another step towards improving access to clean and reliable water following the official handover of the Solarization of Misango Water Project to the contractor in Khwisero Sub-county.

The site handover exercise was led by the Chief Officer for Water and Sanitation, Dr. Mariam Were, marking the commencement of works under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme. Upon completion, the project is expected to increase access to clean water by connecting more households in Kisa North and Kisa East Wards, significantly improving water availability for residents.

The scope of works includes the installation of additional solar power infrastructure to complement the existing solar system, repairs to the pumping unit, pipe distribution, and last-mile connectivity to ensure more households benefit from the improved water supply.

The handover meeting was attended by the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Mr. Benjamin Anadama, who assured residents that the project would have a lasting impact on their daily lives by improving access to water and enhancing sanitation. He reiterated the County Government’s commitment to investing in sustainable infrastructure that directly addresses the needs of local communities.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Mariam Were emphasized that the project aligns with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s agenda of expanding access to safe, reliable, and affordable water services across Kakamega County. She urged the contractor to deliver quality work within the agreed timelines while ensuring local communities, particularly women and youth, benefit from employment opportunities during the implementation phase.
