KAKAMEGA INTENSIFIES ENFORCEMENT TO EXPAND REVENUE BASE

The Kakamega County Revenue Agency (KCRA) has rolled out a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to enhance mobilization of Own Source Revenue (OSR) across the county; an effort aimed at achieving the countyโ€™s Ksh 2.2 billion revenue target.

A joint team comprising officers from KCRA, County Enforcement Unit and Marshals is currently conducting field assessments in Kakamega and Mumias Municipalities, and environs. The objective is to evaluate the level of compliance among traders, build taxpayer confidence and promote voluntary compliance.

Key revenue streams under review include advertisements, land rates, house rent, liquor licensing, parking and bus park fees, plan approvals, single business permits and fire compliance among others.

The team is also scrutinizing issued permits to verify their authenticity, detect any undercharges, and confirm payment for applicable revenue streams.

KCRAโ€™s Human Resource and Planning Officer Ms. Jackline Otsieno and Ms. Truphena Matara respectively urged the officers to adhere strictly to the public servants’ code of ethics and maintain courtesy throughout the exercise.

This initiative aligns with Kakamega Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasaโ€™s development agenda which identifies Own Source Revenue as a pillar for driving growth and improving service delivery in the county.
