GOVERNOR BARASA PAYS LAST RESPECTS TO MAMA JOICE ABUNGU, UPDATES MUMIAS WEST RESIDENTS ON DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

H.E. Governor FCPA Dr. Fernandes Barasa today joined the family, relatives, friends and residents of Emukhwenje Area in Musanda Ward, Mumias West Sub-County, for the funeral service of the late Mama Joice Nafula Abungu.

The Governor described the late Mama Joice as a caring, humble and devoted mother whose love for her family and commitment to the well-being of her community earned her admiration and respect. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for God’s strength, comfort and peace during this period of mourning.

While addressing mourners, Governor Barasa updated residents on ongoing and completed county government development projects in Mumias West Sub-County. He said the construction of Bungasi Market is progressing well, renovation works at Bungasi Health Centre are ongoing, Buriya ECDE Centre has been completed, while Bumia ECDE Centre in neighbouring Etenje Ward is nearing completion. He added that construction of Lukongo Health Centre is underway, the Mumias–Matawa–Indangalasia Road is being upgraded to bitumen standards, and the Matawa Organic Fertilizer Factory is operational, supporting agricultural productivity and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

The Governor said his administration remains focused on completing inherited stalled projects while implementing new development programmes across Kakamega County. He highlighted the successful completion and commissioning of Butere Level IV Hospital and ongoing works at Koyonzo Market, Eshibinga Market, Shamakhubu Level IV Hospital, Sichirai Market, Tumbeni Dairy Factory, among many projects that are nearing completion. He also noted the revival of capital projects including Kakamega Level VI Referral Hospital and modernisation of Bukhungu Stadium through collaboration between the County and National Governments.

Governor Barasa called on leaders and residents to uphold peace, unity and mutual respect, noting that development thrives in an environment of harmony and cooperation. He urged leaders to prioritise the interests of the people and work together towards improving livelihoods across Kakamega County.
