BUTERE RESIDENTS RECEIVE ENERGY-SAVING COOKING STOVES

Residents of Shianda/Marenyo ward in Butere sub-county on Monday received 600 energy-saving cooking stoves with an aim of delivering people-centered, climate-smart interventions under the World Bank supported Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program.

In addition to the stoves, St. Paul’s Shikunga and St. Peter’s Muyundi Secondary Schools also benefitted from installation of climate-friendly cooking boilers, a technology that is expected to lower fuel costs, reduce emissions and promote environmental conservation in the institutions.

Members of the Ward Climate Change Planning Committee were also taken through a capacity-building session on energy efficiency and the role of energy-saving stoves in climate change mitigation.

Beneficiaries included Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), youths and the vulnerable. The event was graced by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change Ms. Peninah Mukabane,

Later in the day Ms. Mukabane inspected the Firatsi Water Project in the same ward, reaffirming Governor Fernandes Barasa administration’s commitment to expanding access to clean water while mainstreaming climate resilience across all development initiatives.
