H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, today inspected ongoing works at the near-complete 750-bed Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital, a flagship Level Six facility being implemented through a partnership between the County Government of Kakamega and the National Government under President Dr. William Ruto.
The Governor said good progress has been made and expressed confidence that the hospital will be completed within the next five months. The fourth floor is complete, the third floor is almost done, and works on the lower floors and external infrastructure are progressing steadily. The installation of ICT systems and procurement of critical medical equipment for Phase One are currently underway, positioning the facility for operational readiness within the stipulated timeframe.
Upon commissioning later this year, the hospital will significantly expand access to specialized and referral healthcare services within Kakamega, the wider Western Kenya, hence becoming the premier regional hub for advanced, patient-centered medical tourism services.
The hospital is designed to ease pressure on existing referral institutions while enhancing service delivery standards. It is also expected to create more than 3,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing to local economic growth and strengthening household incomes in Kakamega County.
