GOVERNOR BARASA HIGHLIGHTS EDUCATION SUPPORT DURING MUKUMU BOYS FEAST DAY

H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, today joined students, alumni, parents and the Catholic faithful at St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys’ High School in Isukha South Ward, Shinyalu Constituency, for the 2026 Patron Saint’s Feast Day celebrations, presided over by Rev. Jacob Wafula, representing Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sagwe of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega.
Governor Barasa commended the Catholic Church for its continued role in supporting education, moral formation and character development among learners. He urged students to uphold discipline, integrity and hard work, drawing inspiration from the values of St. Ignatius Loyola in their pursuit of academic excellence and service to society.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to supporting education through bursaries and other programmes aimed at ensuring that no learner misses school due to financial challenges. During the last financial year, the County Government disbursed KSh 150 million in bursaries to secondary school students and KSh 30 million to polytechnic trainees, with St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys receiving KSh 1.5 million to support needy learners.
The occasion also provided an opportunity to pray for the school’s 2026 KCSE candidates as they prepare for their national examinations and to raise funds in support of students facing financial difficulties. Governor Barasa wished the candidates success and encouraged them to uphold the school’s tradition of academic excellence.
Governor Barasa said his administration will continue working with education stakeholders to create opportunities for learners across Kakamega County, noting that investing in education remains key to empowering the next generation.
The event was graced by Bungoma Governor H.E. Kenneth Lusaka as Chief Guest, Shinyalu MP Hon. Fred Ikana, MCAs led by the host Hon. Charles Lwanga and other leaders.
