CPCC BACKSTOPPING MISSION HIGHLIGHTS TRANSFORMATIVE IMPACT OF KELCOP ON COMMUNITY LIVELIHOODS
The County Project Coordination Committee (CPCC), Chaired by Agriculture CECM Mophat Mandela, carried out a support mission in Lugari Subcounty as part of KeLCoP, showcasing significant achievements among the beneficiary groups.
Mungoma Self Help Group has grown from limited capacity to a thriving poultry enterprise, now managing 2,500 birds after initial support, training, and reinvestment. With improved structures and a clear plan to scale to 30,000 birds, the group is steadily moving toward commercialization.
Faulu Youth Group in Lugari Sub County has also expanded its beekeeping venture from 10 to 40 hives through KeLCoP support, with 26 already colonized. With training, a promised centrifuge machine, and plans for KEBS certification, the group is well positioned to boost production and access markets.
At Elite Breeders Farm, James Nyangweso has grown his flock from 11 to 17 Dorper sheep and passed on two lambs to Mwamba CDDC, demonstrating the success of the breed multiplication model. With a vision to scale to over 100 sheep, the farm is emerging as a key breeding hub.
Mr Mandela, together with fellow Committee Members including Trade CECM Mr Godfrey Owori and Sports CECM Ms Jackline Masicha, noted that the visit demonstrated how equipping communities with the right knowledge, resources, and support enables them to transform livelihoods and build sustainable enterprises.
Overall, the mission reaffirmed KeLCoP’s impact in driving sustainable, income-generating livestock enterprises. Also present were Chief Officers; Mr Emmanuel Kariuki, Agriculture, Anselin Mulinya, Cooperatives, alongside KeLCoP County Project Coordinator, Ms Frandina Machwenu and other officials.
