BOOST TO TRADE AS COUNTY LAUNCHES CONSTRUCTION OF KEY PROJECTS IN BUTERE
Site handover for the construction of a market shed at Shitswitswi and a modern market at Shiatsala in Butere sub-county was officially conducted today. The events were presided over by CECM for Trade, Industrialization and Tourism, Mr. Godfrey Owori. During the exercise, the CECM engaged market committee members, outlining key works to be undertaken, including construction and improvement of surrounding road networks to enhance accessibility.
He also urged traders to organize themselves into groups to benefit from County loan programs, while also directing the contractor to prioritize local labor and locally available materials to empower the community. On behalf of H. E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, Mr. Owori thanked residents for their continued support and called for patience to allow timely completion of the projects.
Further, Mr. Owori highlighted ongoing and completed projects in the area, including Ikalikha Health Center (95% complete), Shirotsa Dispensary (set for construction launch), sanitation facilities at Shitswitswi Market, renovation of Shibembe Health Centre, and repair and maintenance of 10km of roads.
CECM Owori, further, noted that County bursary allocation for Grade 10 is at 75% vetting stage, while distribution of county DAP fertilizer and maize seeds to vulnerable groups is currently ongoing. He also confirmed that construction work at the Mamatisi Water Project and Emukoye Health Centre, which had stalled, will resume soon. The Leader of Majority, Hon. Philip Maina, used the occasion to encourage residents to register as voters and support the Governor’s development agenda.
The Shitswitswi market shed will cost KSh. 12 million, while the Shiatsala modern market project, valued at KSh. 34 million, will include a main market, ablution block, boundary works, cabro paving, water storage systems, and drainage installations, with a completion timeline of one year.
Also present were Chief Officer, Faith Gitira, Butere sub-county administrator, Hillary Angote, and Director, Trade, Mr. Hadley Muteshi.
