TASKFORCE ON COURSE ~ PROF. KUTIMA

Kakamega County Deputy Governor H.E. Philip Museve Kutima has expressed optimism that H.E. Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya’s led sugar taskforce committee will find a permanent solution to the troubled sector in Kakamega County, the Western region and the country at large.

Speaking during a funeral service of the late Mama Esther Mueni, a retired civil servant and farmer at Chebwai village, Butali Chegulo ward, Malava sub county, Kakamega County, the deputy governor said the committee had engaged all stakeholders including farmers to ascertain the challenges facing the sugar sector as well as review its policies in order to revive the ailing sector. The deputy governor who also doubles up as the CECM Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Production, Fisheries development and Cooperatives announced that a strange disease had hit sugarcane plantations across the county and added that his ministry had engaged the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) to carry out tests on the crop and quickly curb further spread of the disease. Prof. Kutima urged both the county and national government officers to work closely as they discharge their mandate to the residents.

The late Mama Esther who passed on aged 71 years was eulogized as a peaceful and God fearing person. She was a sister in law to the deputy governor H.E. Prof. Kutima.

Naomi Shionga, Kakamega County Public Service Board Vice Chairperson Hon. Maxwell Shamala, Members of Kakamega County Assembly led by deputy speaker Hon. Leonard Kasaya, Chief of Staff Robert Sumbi and advisors in the office of the Governor among other leaders.
