The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health Services in partnership with PATH- Nuru ya Mtoto, conducted a capacity-building initiative aimed at sensitizing the disabled community on the importance of early cancer screening and treatment. The training took place at Mumias Level IV Hospital and it targeted female persons with disabilities within the reproductive age group.
Representing Governor Fernandes Barasa, County Disability Mainstreaming Coordinator, Mrs. Faith Awour said that early screening and treatment of cervical cancer among persons with disabilities is key to controlling the disease. She noted that the initiative aligns with the Governor’s Health pillar by promoting inclusive access to essential health services.
The training focused on creating awareness on cervical cancer prevention, the importance of routine screening, and improving access to treatment services for women with disabilities, who often face barriers in accessing healthcare. Participants were also empowered with knowledge on available support systems and referral pathways within the county health facilities.
Present during the training was Mumias Sub-County Medical Officer of Health, Mr. Johnson Aseka, alongside other health officials.
