KAKAMEGA COUNTY SET TO ACQUIRE ASSETS FOR DEVOLVED FUNCTIONS

A Kakamega County report by the Intergovernmental Committee on Assets and Liabilities of the National Government relating to devolved functions is ready for presentation to the Governor H.E Dr. FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya.

County Committee Chairman Mr. Solomon Ouko has told the County Communications office that the 840 page document has been published and was delivered to the Intergovernmental Technical Relations Committee (IGTRC) in Nairobi on Friday by the Secretariat for official presentation to the County Government of Kakamega at a function that will be graced by the Governor.

Finalization of this process brings to an end a lengthy seven year exercise of identification, verification and validation of property worth billions of shillings and liabilities not declared by the National Government relating to devolved functions as of 27th March, 2013 when the Devolved Governance System came into effect in Kenya.

Some of the Assets to be transfered to the County Government of Kakamega include; land, buildings and houses, plants and equipment, motor vehicles, biological assets like forests and domestic animals as well as all on-going projects as of the 27th March, 2013.

“The report also informs on findings about liabilities relating to devolved functions to be settled by the Ministry of Devolution and the County Government completing the harmonious constitutional government transition hence a progressive peaceful County and Nation,” Mr. Ouko said.
