SICHIRAYI MARKET CONSTRUCTION COMMISIONED

The CECM for Lands, Housing, Urban Areas & Physical Planning Hon. Robert Kundu Wednesday, commissioned the construction of Sichirayi Market and Access Roads projects at Sichirayi grounds in Lurambi Sub-County.

Addressing residents during the public participation, Hon. Makhanu stated that it is the wish and vision of the Governor H.E DR. FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya to have an ultra-modern market that will serve the steadily increasing youth population in the area and to expand Kakamega town.

“Once operational, this project will create more employment opportunities for the residents hence improving their social and economic living standards,” the CECM said amidst cheers from the public.

The project was listed and prioritized in the Kakamega Annual Investment Plan for the Financial Year 2019-2020. Amongst other projects to be launched in Sichirayi area include a Modern Bus Park, Street Lighting, Industrial Shades, Access Roads and an Open Park.

The project is funded by World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) and is expected to be completed in twelve months time.

In attendance were Shieywe Ward MCA Hon. Joab Mwamto, Director Physical Planning Stephen Chune, Lurambi Sub-County Administrator Juma Omwendo, Shieywe Ward Administrator Ramadhan Wekhuyi, Community Area Administrators among Officers.
