TOP 2017 K.C.P.E PUPIL HOSTED BY THE GOVERNOR

Kakamega County schools’ for the third time in a row produced a sterling performance in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E) producing the best pupil nationally namely Goldalyn Kakuya of St. Annes Lubao Primary School. She scored 455 marks.
Today at the County government chambers when she paid a courtesy call to H.E Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, Goldalyn thanked her parents, St. Annes’ Lubao primary school teachers and management and other stakeholders in the school for supporting her through her primary academic journey. She called on all the other candidates who did not perform to their expectations to work harder in secondary education. Her dream is to study Psychiatry.
Governor Oparanya congratulated the candidate and reminded residents that by the fact that the County has led nationally in three consecutive years is a clear indication that the county government is determined to raise the education standards in the county. He paid tribute to the Prof. Laban Ayiro’s led Education Taskforce which came up with findings about what was ailing the sector in the county, as well as recommendations on what needed to be done to bridge the gap, as having kick started the journey towards raising the education standards. The Governor mentioned County Helb Loan, Scholarships to study overseas and County Bursaries as some of the measures his government has instigated to assist the bright but needy students in the county. Also present was Tracey Sakwa from Kakamega Primary School, who emerged as the top pupil in public schools in Kakamega County with 433marks.
The Governor later hosted a delegation from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and CECAFA led by Secretary General Nick Musonye to deliberate on the upcoming CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup Trophy which will be held at Bukhungu Stadium from 3rd to 17th December. Phase One renovation works of the stadium is complete. He invited members of the public and all stakeholders to attend the matches hence better placing Kakamega in a position to host the finals of the regional tourney.
